ADHD can be stressful to live with. We can help you cut through the noise.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a double edged sword. On one hand, it can turn a simple inconvenient task into a week-long nightmare of distraction and irritation. On the other hand, it can give powerful cognitive abilities to focus on things that really capture the imagination and inspiration. Wouldn’t it be great if we could skip the negative effects of ADHD while keeping the positive effects of ADHD? At Youthful Minds Psychiatry, we offer a variety of treatments that can help make this a reality.
The treatment of ADHD is a very personal and individual choice. There are positive aspects to having ADHD, and at Youthful Minds Psychiatry we object to the final D in ADHD, as we believe that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity is not necessarily a disorder. It’s the environment that we and our children live in that makes it difficult for them to function.
There is no one best treatment for ADHD. The most gentle treatment is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for ADHD, which is a teaching therapy that instructs children on how to recognize their ADHD triggers and behaviors and adapt so they can still be productive and appropriately social. The most common treatment, and the treatment most well-supported by the evidence, is the administration of stimulant medications. These medications essentially speed up the processing of the brain, in order for the speed of the child’s thoughts to catch up with their actions. These medications do come with risks and side-effects, but there are also risks to leaving ADHD untreated as well.
A Youthful Minds Psychiatry, our experts in ADHD can provide you and your family with treatment options that you feel comfortable with in order to help your loved one reach their maximum potential.
